Photos of Large Munsterlanders in North America
a small collection of photographs submitted by members of the Large Munsterlander Club of North America®
The pictures on this page are meant to be a representation of the variety of coat colorations of Large Munsterlanders. The mostly white dogs are called plated since the black spots appear as "plates". The darker dogs are called ticked, due to the abundance of small spots and large spots of black, often accompanied by roan areas. Although the classical literature states that the ticked pattern is inherited as an autosomal dominant and the plated pattern is recessive, most if not all Large Munsterlanders are ticked. The number of ticks and roan areas, as well as the large black patches, varies tremendously however. Because these dogs are selected for hunting performance, not looks, they probably vary more in conformation than many other purebred dogs. See genetics of coat colors. for more detailed information about the inheritance of and DNA tests for coat colors and patterns.
